Pegue os Milestones (ainda tem bastante Milestone 3 ativo e até Milestone 2) que têm teclado físico. Quem compra Milestone geralmente gosta muito do teclado físico. Quando abre o teclado, se seu app está travado em portrait, como o usuário vai digitar? Ou um telefone como o Motorola Charm (o Charm mesmo é velho, mas ainda existem uns Samsung ou LG assim, mas não lembro o modelo), que tem a posição default em landscape.
Se travar em portrait, vai ferrar os usuários :(

Eu sou um pouco mais preguiçoso!
Nos meus apps, eu coloco pra ficar na posição vertical o tempo todo.
É só ir no manifest, e na tag activity adicionar:
