Se você já tem certeza que o problema é esse, não basta remover o elevation do button? Ex: android:elevation="@null" ou ="0dp"

Como o Lucio comentou mais acima, o problema é quando rodo o app no Lollipop, pois ele aplica o thema do Material Design e inseri um elevation no button.

Então minha solução inicial, está sendo verificar se está rodando Lollipop e aplicar um elevation no TextView.

Mas não sei se é o mais bonito a se fazer :/

Então Marcelo, o problema que é somente no Lollipop, possivelmente ele está jogando um elevation no botão.
